๐Ÿคต๐Ÿป About Gavin

๐Ÿซ Institutional Pragmatist

If it works, it works.

  • I would position myself as an institutional pragmatist.

  • I believe in law and order, but I am not bound to stubborn rules.

Politics is the art of possible.

  • It is a quote from my first lesson at University, and it is a suitable abstraction of my four years of studies.

  • Nothing is impossible in politics, and everything is about communication, negotiation, and compromise.

  • I majored in public relations and politics during my bachelor studies. They shaped how I view the world and human interaction.

  • I have learnt different political philosophies and idealism, from the liberals to the conservatives and from rational choice theory to realism.

  • Each school have different; some may even have contradicting points of view, and I am trained to view things in a multifaceted manner.

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ STEAM & AI Educator

  • I have a Master's Degree in STEM Education, supported research on coding education, and am currently teaching an AI literacy programme at a local university.

  • My IT adventure started as a secondary two (grade 8) student after my cousin rooted my Samsung Galaxy S1.

  • Or the seed was planted much earlier when my parents enrolled me on different computer courses during my primary studies.

  • By academic record, my computer literacy level stops at secondary 3, and since then, I have had no compulsory computer lessons.

  • I did not choose to study ICT at the senior secondary level because I think its syllabus was too fundamental,

  • Yet I started to learn Python by myself in secondary 5.

  • The best part of being a self-taught programmer is that I can learn and create anything without restrictions.

  • I am familiar with programming languages like Python and JavaScript and environments like Linux, and I have experience with various data science models and tools.

  • Before my master's degree, I already taught STEAM courses from kindergarten to secondary school (extra-curricular activities).

  • Studying at the master's level taught me much more about the pedagogical side.

  • The most fascinating part of being a teacher, apart from delivering knowledge and sharing your thoughts, is that it helps you discover what you are not familiar with (Feynman Technique).

  • And because of the need to teach AI literacy courses, I spent much time learning AI and the way of explaining the concept to the layman, and I am confident.

  • Hence, I am now an expert in AI at the literacy level =)

  • If someone like me, who does not come from a STEM background, could learn and teach STEAM and AI, everybody could.
